A five-year-old has surpassed her mother with the family’s Elf on the Shelf.
Her mother is now torn about the way things have been handled, feeling like her daughter has been played UNO’s latest reverse card.
“she’s lying to me”
In a Reddit post, she explains:
“My daughter (5) keeps doing cute things and saying Elf on the Shelf did it.
“Last night, the elves got into cotton balls and Q-types and it snowed on the bathroom counter. My daughter came out of the bathroom this afternoon and said mommy, the elves snowed with snow with outlettoo!
“She obviously knows the Elf didn’t do anything like that—and they fixed the cruise. So she’s lying to me.”
Now, the mother is grappling with the moral dilemma of her daughter’s shaken honesty, preserving the magic of Christmas.
“So she must know the elf is fake? But maybe not, “she thinks.
“I don’t know what to do. She keeps doing this kind of thing and I’m just at a loss. So I do nothing? ”
“Looks like karma”
The comments section offered reassurance, suggesting that the behavior is harmless and imaginary.
“Kinda sounds like she just wants to play the game too,” one commenter wrote.
“Oh, how the curves turned out,” added another.
Some were more critical.
“You learn that this inanimate object is ‘doing’ these ‘acts’, but then when it does the same thing, you want to know if you should punish it?” Read a harsh response.
And these group members simply reply, “Sounds like karma to me.”
“Most Magical”
In a follow-up comment, the mother clarified her position, insisting that she was not seeking to punish her child.
“I’m not upset with her at all and I’ve acted up on everything she’s made the elf do. I just wanted to know if I should talk to her about the elf and be honest,” she said.
While she initially worried her daughter’s involvement might spoil the spell, she is since a decision.
“I was worried that with her doing this it wasn’t magical anymore but I think the prospects here are fair,” she wrote.
“I’ve decided after I hear back that I won’t talk to her and just move on unless she asks me.”
After all, she has embraced the creativity of Christmas.
“It’s more magical that she’s participating,” she concluded.
